URBAN ESSAYS – CATEGORY 1
The current situation of the traffic corridors of São Paulo city is chaotic.
Big congestion, excessively long and exhausting commuting, caused by an urban development model aimed at the prioritization of the car as a means of transportation.
Our proposal aims to contribute for construction of a city for people, primarily designed for welfare and social interaction, healthy urbanity for pedestrians and cyclists, and quality public transport, in detriment of motorized individual modes of transportation.
The use’s reduction of cars and motorcycles through actions in the physical space and urban mobility policies aims to improve traffic flow in the capital and improve the population quality of life.
In order to do so, the sets are urban plans to be integrated into the new Strategic Master Plan: Hybrid Zoning and Interventions in Urban Corridors.
Hybrid Zoning is a strategy to balance the functional distribution of different land use patterns. Considering that functionalist urbanism with its functional segregations produces ever greater displacements, Hybrid Zoning aims to integrate and approximate residential and non-residential sectors with services, commerce, institutions, public facilities, leisure areas, and others.
The parameters of Interventions in Urban Corridors establish guidelines for interventions in consolidated streets and streets in consolidation processes, considering the number of lanes, configuration of lanes use, modalities of public transportation, and surrounding elements, such as sidewalks, public flow through the blocks, Urban density, among others.
It is worth highlighting the implementation of cycle lanes, which take different configurations in each specific context, such as elevated bicycle lanes on bus stations, trains and subways, semi-elevated cycle paths integrated into the monorail, and central and lateral bicycle paths integrated into mass transport systems.
