MCD HOUSE

The MCD House was conceived rooted on integration and fluidity of forms. Entering at the living room and dining room with double height, it’s possible to see the gourmet area and the swimming pool, integrated as a big social area. This integration and transparency also provide a visual integration with the landscaping and nature.

The hybrid structural system, mixing steel and concrete, stablishes a contrast and at the same time an interesting dialog that optimize a design rooted on apparent structures. The wood and the stone appear as finish materials linked on a natural appearance, and the façades work as continuous orthogonal lines designed with lighting elements and structural materials.

The topography has oriented the functions of garage and services at the lower area of the terrain, as well as the swimming pool that was placed at a lower spot to avoid earth movements.

The house as a whole was thought to provide shading for the bedrooms with balconies and the best sun orientations to have thermal comfort. It is also reflected on the brises chosen to compose the glass box of the living room. And the cross ventilation is one of the main passive strategies for the temperature balance of the house.

Therefore, the MCD House has a complete approach involving very important elements to a good project: integration, rational design, hybrid structure, natural material combinations and sustainability.
